Your ball carrier needs to be able to stand upright, so Block is an absolute requirement. Blitzers start with Block, and under some coaches they may be the only Bretonnian players to ever get Block. I'd go so far as to say that this role is absoultely required in a good Bretonnian team. Unlike elves, Bretonnians only have 3 AG, and like most 3 AG teams should therefore invest in a dedicated Ball Carrier.

Eventually your Leader should also be performing some other Blitzer role, not just be a grab-bag of random utility skills that don't really care which player they're on. However given the high utility and consequently high cost of a Bretonnian Blitzer you probably want to avoid some of them like Kick and instead give him something that's more useful throughout the entire game. Other teams with a Thrower usually take one for that reason but otherwise treat him like a glorified lineman they can stick useful but mundane utility skills on.

20 TV for an extra reroll is well worth it in my opinion. The first one you probably want is the Leader. This actually leaves lots of room for multiple and overlapping roles, or if you get good level ups you can get some players with really good stats that still have the skills needed to make them useful roleplayers early on in their careers. Given the Blitzers' starting skills however, you could make some pretty decent role players with only a few levels. There aren't that many P skills in general, and outside of specialized players there's pretty much only Leader you'd want (even throwers usually stick with Leader given they start with Pass, unless you have a particularly high-leveled one). It's a little surprising to see blitzers without S access (elves being the other teams that apply to) but what's more surprising is that they have P access. The Blitzers are pretty expensive, as well they should be given their stats and skills, but it's possible you might not want to run all 4 of them, at least at low TV. The 4 Blocker, 4 Blitzer combo is pretty unusual and I'm not quite sure what to make of it yet. Any peasant (except the kicker) that dares even think of level 3 should be immediately recycled, but if you're the soft-hearted sort you could give them tackle and see how that works out. Doubles and stat-ups should probably be ignored (yes, including ST-ups). I can see a 2000 TV Bretonnian team running 16 players.Īs far as levels go, I'd consider giving the first Kick, the second and (if you're running 16 players) the last Dirty Player and the rest Wrestle (or Block, but I think Wrestle is better in this case). Still, don't forget to bring substitutes. Fend is a good help though, so as long as you're careful not to dodge or GFI too much (which you shouldn't do anyway) your peasants are going to last longer than the average Skaven linerat. 7 AV is a much larger concern, but frankly 8 AV would be very overpowered, even if the players cost 50k. It's not like with Dwarves (and to a lesser extent Undead and Necromantic) where you only have a few players with 3 AG, and they aren't particularly fast. You have up to 8 positionals with 3 AG and decent MA so you can probably get one of them to the ball in a reasonable fashion.

The peasants having 2 AG is not a big deal for bretonnians. Only costing 40k also makes fouling a very valid tactic, and you can afford to have several substitutes. It mitigates their 7 AV somewhat but most importantly, a bunch of Fend players can really mess with your opponent's ability to maneuver in a cluster of players. Fend is in my opinion a core skill for linemen, second after Block or Wrestle (and the odd Kick and Dirty Player).

6 MA is really important, as any team with less than that is going to struggle to keep up with the faster teams. The downsides of 2 AG and 7 AV aren't minor, but I'd still say they're in the upper tier as far as linemen go. The Peasants have almost perfect stats for linemen: 3 ST, 6 MA, Fend and only 40k.

This is based mostly on my experience playing other teams and quite a bit of theorycrafting. I should not I haven't played very much with them yet. Bretonnians start with lots of Fend and Wrestle on their team which all in all encourages you to develop them in different ways from other teams, and which I believe can result in a composition that relies less on Block and Tackle and more on other skills than what typical 3 AG teams do. In particular, Block and Tackle are ubiquitous as well as either Guard or Dodge (depending on your skill access). I really like how the starting stats and skills of the various players makes you want to develop the team differently from many other teams. I first read about the bretonnians about two years ago and found them really fascinating and I was really happy when I heard they were in BB2.
